The US Army's 185th Recon Airplane Company flew O-1 Birddog (L-19, aka "Li'l Brown Airplane") reconnaissance and FAC in close support of Grunts in several Corps areas of South Vietnam. Steve "Scurvydog" Harrison drew the Third Platoon "Pterodactyls" in II Coprs, Central Highlands, based out of Camp Coryell on the outskirts of Ban Me Thuot (1968-69). Post him at . The crossbow on the patch is symbolic of the Montagnard aboriginals of the Central Highlands. The Pterodactyl is symbolic of the vintage of the Third Platoon's airplanes. The patch was designed by one of the platoon's aviators in 1968 and it is believed to be a one-time production. Thus, the official unofficial 185th RAC, 3rd Platoon patch.
