Video Clips

Probably best, if given the choice, to click "Save" rather than "Open" to save the file/s to your own harddrive and then play them from there. You can stream them from the web server by selecting "Open," but it'll take awhile to buffer it into memory and will probably run pretty slow and choppy, at least the first time through. Definitely best to download them and stream them from your own harddrive. Obviously, you'll need a video player software. Recommend Windows Media Player for PCs. No idea about MACs.

1.  Looks to be a F-14 Tomcat exceeding mach at about 30 feet off the water, passing between two ships. Note the wake the shock wave is plowing under the plane, and of course the sonic boom gives the sailors a good hoot.  DOWNLOAD  (1.0mb)

2.  This one made me shoot iced tea out me nose first time I saw it. Some Brit newscaster surely had some laundry to do after shooting this little video remembrance of the WWII Supermarine Spitfire fighter. There's no getting around it, the lad got the shit scared out of him (rated x for language). My guess is the camera was on a tripod (it's VERY stable, considering), and the narrator took his que from the cameraman, who, looking right into the cockpit of the Spit, prolly hit the deck first. Doubt they got to run this on the 6 o'clock news after all. The sound is bad on this one, I had to turn my speakers WAY up -- not so much to make out what the dood was saying, but to hear that Spitfire SCREAM. Gawd, that's a ballsey airplane. I want one for Christmas -- screw the friggin' pony. DOWNLOAD  (2.0mb)

3.  This clip really curls me toes. Count the number of seconds after he pulls the nose up and inverts it that he would still have a chance to abort the stunt if all wasn't EXACTLY right, which it has to be with this little tolerance. I count... well, actually... zero seconds margin for error. If this guy's even still alive, he's the ballsiest stunt pilot I've ever seen.  DOWNLOAD  (0.8mb)

4.  Another great Spitfire video clip submitted by Darryl Tong of New Zealand. It was filmed back in 1991 at the Matamata Air show in New Zealand. Darryl included the following info: "The pilot was Tim Wallis of the "Alpine Fighter Group" based in Wanaka, New Zealand. I felt he was a very good Display Pilot. Unfortunately, some years ago, he had a bad crash after takeoff in his "Griffin" powered Spitfire. He's still alive but unable to fly as far as I know." Thanks for sharing this with us, Darryl.  DOWNLOAD  (8.4mb)
