Journal of a Combat Tanker. The Vietnam warrior story of Sgt. Toby Brant.

Journal of a Combat Tanker
Vietnam, 1969
By Toby L. Brant

Journal of a Combat Tanker is a moving and provocative account of the author's tour of duty in Vietnam. Now, when Vietnam veterans are finally getting a part of what is due them from an ungrateful country, Toby Brant's book comes as a searing reminder of the terrible price young Americans paid, in mind and body, in Southeast Asia.

The Author's story begins with his embarkation for Vietnam as a nineteen-year-old tank sergeant. After joining the service because of a genuine sense of duty and patriotism, Toby was soon to learn the true nature of the conflict -- the ubiquitous fear, the agony of maimed and dying men, and the pervasive sense of futility regarding the conduct of the war from a fighting soldier's perspective.

Twice wounded, Toby left Vietnam profoundly changed by the war, both physically and mentally. Unlike some of his less fortunate comrades, Toby was able to come to terms with his experiences through the support of his family and inner resources of strength and will. His personal account of the Vietnam War should be read and pondered by all Americans because it provides a powerful lesson as to the very dear cost of war. Toby received a very good review of his book from Vietnam Magazine in the April edition, 1989.
